Frequently Asked Questions

General Marketplace Questions

+ Who is the PD Marketplace for?

Anybody looking to buy or sell pre-owned Peak Design gear. Give unused gear a new life by selling it in exchange for store credit or cash. Buy pre-owned Peak Design gear hassle-free, with the confidence of Peak Design’s Lifetime Guarantee and stellar customer service team.

Currently the PD Marketplace is only available to buyers and sellers in the US, CA, and the UK.

+ Who runs the PD Marketplace?

The kooky nutballs on the Peak Design team run the PD Marketplace, and we’re darn proud of it. We built this site in conjunction with our partner Recurate, and they continue to help us manage and improve it.

+ How is this different from eBay, Craigslist, and other sites like that?

It’s similar...but a lot better. When it comes to buying and selling used PD gear, the PD Marketplace is easier, faster, and more reliable than any other peer-to-peer marketplace. Why?

It’s made just for PD products and customers. Find exactly what you’re looking for faster. Sell items you’ve registered with the click of a button. We know our products and customers better that eBay and Craigslist do, and we’ve put that knowledge to work here.

It’s supported by our stellar customer service team. We ensure sellers describe items accurately and buyers receive gear quickly. If something goes wrong, we make it right. Secondhand sales with first-class support.

We guarantee used products for life. Whether you buy a PD product first-hand or tenth-hand, we’ll back it with the Peak Design Lifetime Guarantee.

+ Who pays for shipping?

When sellers choose their listing price, we automatically add a flat shipping fee based on the product type. For buyers, shipping will be included in the sale price that they see for PD Marketplace items. Once the transaction is complete, our partner Recurate will email the seller a prepaid shipping label.

Please note that Marketplace orders cannot be shipped to APO/FPO addresses.

Buying Products on the Marketplace

+ What can I buy here?

Here, you’ll find actual Peak Design customers reselling their own Peak Design products. Items shown in the pictures are the exact items you will receive, and they will be shipped to you by the seller.

Currently the PD Marketplace is only available to buyers and sellers in the US, Canada, and the UK, but we hope to expand to other countries soon.

+ How do I pay for an item I purchase?

You’ll pay just like you’re buying a new item on peakdesign.com, by using our secure checkout. Simply "Add to Cart" and proceed through the checkout as usual.

+ How long does shipping take?

Sellers are required to ship your order within 3 business days. The item will ship with a tracking number, and should typically arrive no more than 4 days after it is shipped.

+ Can I return my PD Marketplace purchase?

All Marketplace purchases are final...that means once you complete checkout, you cannot cancel your order. This applies to sellers too: once you have completed checkout, they cannot alter or cancel the transaction. These rules are in place to ensure that both buyers and sellers can use the PD Marketplace with total confidence and trust.

To that end, there is one case in which a Marketplace purchase can be returned: if the item received is not in the condition described by the seller. If that situation occurs, you can open a dispute process with our customer service team. If we confirm the dispute, we will offer a refund and have you return the item to the seller.

To open a dispute, email marketplace@peakdesign.com or reply to your order confirmation email.

+ What does PD Certified mean?

Some items on the PD Marketplace will be listed with the condition 'PD Certified.' PD Certified items are a combination of open-box product, gently used returns, and refurbished warranty returns sold on the PD Marketplace directly by Peak Design. They are listed alongside other products sold by customers, and they are all listed for 10% off MSRP.

+ What does Pobody's Nerfect mean?

You may occasionally notice items for sale on the PD Marketplace with the condition 'Pobody's Nerfect.' Like PD Certified products, they are sold directly by Peak Design. Unlike PD Certified products, they are not covered by our Lifetime Guarantee. Pobody’s Nerfect products are items that are fully-functional and brand-new, but with one or more minor manufacturing defects. These defects are purely aesthetic and tend to be things like a slightly crooked seam or a rippled patch of fabric. In some cases you may not even notice the defect. Pobody’s Nerfect items are sold for 20% off MSRP, a pretty fantastic deal to get on a brand new piece of PD gear.Note that when you buy a Pobody's Nerfect item, we can't tell you specifically what defect your item has. Hence we've included a few images below showing the types of minor defects you might find on Pobody's Nerfect products. As you can see, many of these issues are things that you might never notice unless it was specifically called out to you.

Selling Products on the Marketplace

+ How do I list my item for sale?

First-timers can watch this video to learn how to list your used gear.

Go to the Sell Gear page and click 'SELL YOUR GEAR NOW'. You'll be instructed to login to your Peak Design account (if you don't have one, you can create one).

You'll be sent to your Peak Design account dashboard and see a list of your registered products. Find the product you want to sell and click “SELL USED ON MARKETPLACE.” If you don’t see your product, click “SELL ITEM NOT LISTED BELOW” and follow the prompts.

You’ll be asked to provide pictures and details about the item. People will buy based on the info you provide, so be honest and put those photography skills to use. You’ll only receive payout after the seller confirms the item’s stated condition.

Your listing price should be in USD$. If you are listing from outside of the U.S., please convert your ideal price to USD and add that amount to the listing form. You will be paid via gift card or cash in your local currency.

Peak Design reviews all Marketplace submissions (typically within 1 business day), and has the right to approve or deny listings. Once approved, we encourage you to share your listing! The more you share, the higher the chance of selling it.

+ What can I sell here?

You can sell any Peak Design product that you’ve registered on peakdesign.com. Fortunately, registration is fast and easy, and you can register a Peak Design product no matter where you bought it.

Currently the PD Marketplace is only available to buyers and sellers in the US, Canada, and the UK, but we hope to expand to other countries soon.

+ What price can I sell it at?

You are welcome to name your price, but we will recommend a price based on the item’s age and condition. We will then add a fixed amount to the listing price to cover shipping charges.

+ Does Peak Design take a cut?

Peak Design has partnered with a third party service called Recurate to build and maintain the PD Marketplace. We don’t take a cut from your store credit payout, but we do take a percentage (25%) if you prefer cash payment. This fee goes toward covering the cost of Recurate’s services.

+ How is shipping handled?

As soon as a customer purchases your item, you will be sent a prepaid trackable shipping label, and must send the item within 3 business days. You do not have to pay extra for shipping.

Please carefully and neatly pack your item, and drop it off with the shipping label at the nearest post office. You can also hand it to your mail-person.

+ How and when do I get paid?

When the buyer receives the item, they have 3 days to confirm that they received it in the condition described in your listing. When the buyer confirms, or the 3-day confirmation window lapses, the seller gets paid. You can opt to receive payment in peakdesign.com store credit or in cash, via Stripe. If you choose store credit, you’ll receive 100% of the listing price. If you choose Stripe, you’ll receive 75% of the listing price.

+ How can I modify, pause, or remove my selling?

When you list an item, you'll receive a confirmation email. Find that email, click the "modify listing" link, and follow the instructions to modify, pause, or remove your listing.

Note that once your item is purchased, you cannot modify or cancel your listing. When an item sells, you are required to send it to the buyer. So, don't list gear for sale unless you are sure you are ready to part with it.

+ I logged in but I don't see a button to sell my gear.

We are currently only allowing sellers from within the US, Canada, and the UK. If you are located outside of the US, Canada, and the UK, you will not see yellow PD Marketplace buttons on your Peak Design Account Dashboard.

If you are located in the US, Canada, and the UK and you still don't see buttons to sell your gear, it means we likely do not have an address on file for your account. From your Account Dashboard page, click the "Manage + Addresses" button at the bottom and enter your address. Then refresh the page and you should see yellow buttons to list gear for sale.

+ Do discounts work on the Marketplace?

Discount codes cannot be applied to purchases made on Marketplace. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please feel free to contact us.
